Description

The UK’s Social Policy Association is teaming up with the ESRC South Coast Doctoral Training Partnership to deliver a free ‘Masterclass in Social Policy’ which is open to all PhD students in social policy across the UK. The event will take place in person at the University of Southampton on 24th March 2026 between 10am-4pm. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The event will focus on: “Research methods applied to social policy research”, and will be an opportunity for PhD students to hear from social policy experts at different stages of their career, in different substantive areas and using a range of research methods. Indicative topics to be covered include: decoloniality, co-production, participatory approaches, comparative policy analysis, tracing policy feedback effects, and concepts and measurement in social policy.

There is a total of 30 spaces for PhD students at this event. The SCDTP will cover the cost of travel and 1 night’s accommodation in Southampton for up to 10 self-funded PhD students. In addition, the SPA will cover the costs of 1 year’s membership of the SPA for up to 10 self-funded PhD students.
