As part of the SPA 2024 conference we are delighted to offer dedicated events for postgraduate students, PhD and early career researchers (PGs and ECRs) who are attending.
These are social opportunity, networking, and career development focused activities and may be especially welcome if you are new to academic conferences or the SPA.
Spaces are limited – see more details below and sign-up for one or more events here.
On the evening of Tuesday 2nd July, we are holding a dedicated pre-conference PGR/ECR social event from 8.30pm at Flight Club, Glasgow. The SPA’s portfolio officers for PGR and ECR support, Sade Ajose and Carolyn Snell, will be in attendance to welcome you.
At 9am on Wednesday 3rd July (the first full day of conference), there will be a networking and careers related workshop. There is also the option to sign-up to have a professional headshot taken.
The session will be in room TL329 and will start with refreshments and pastries at 9am, with sessions beginning at 9.30. The session will cover:
• Getting published – tips on submitting your first paper
• Teaching in social policy – why do it, the challenges and rewards
• PhD placements – deciding whether or not to do one
• Jobs in policy – what employers are looking for and what to expect
If interested in attending any of the above or having a headshot taken, please remember to sign-up for these at the link above.
If you have any queries, please contact Carolyn Snell, at: carolyn.snell@york.ac.uk.
We look forward to seeing you at the conference!
