SPA Awards: Call for Exec member and Awards judges

The SPA is looking to co-opt an Exec member to manage the SPA Awards process and help us celebrate the excellence of work being done in Social Policy. The Awards portfolio holder manages the process of seeking nominations for the annual SPA Awards, working with the judges panel and arranging the awards ceremony during the conference dinner. All the details of the SPA Awards are available here.

The successful applicant will be co-opted to the Board until the 2027 AGM, with the option to stand for election to the Exec at that point.

The SPA executive committee meets quarterly and elected members are expected to attend and contribute to the ongoing activities of the committee. Members of the Executive committee become members of the Trustee Board of the SPA (charity no. 528347).

All meetings of the executive are carried out in hybrid format making it possible to join them remotely. This means that we also welcome applications from our international members. Travel, subsistence and childcare expenses associated with Executive meeting attendance are also covered.

If you would be interested in this role, please email nominations@social-policy.org.uk with the subject ‘SPA Exec Awards Portfolio’, including a brief statement explaining what you can bring to the role by Friday 4th December 2026, 17:00.

We are also seeking two new judges for the Awards Panel, who decide on the winners of the SPA Awards – one academic and one non-academic from an organisation working in social policy. Judges sit on the panel for three years, with most of the work taking place in March-June each year. Judges are also invited to the conference dinner and awards ceremony.

If you would be interested in this role, or would like to nominate someone to become an Awards judge, please email nominations@social-policy.org.uk with the subject ‘SPA Exec Awards Judging Panel’, including a brief statement explaining what you/your nominee can bring to the role by Friday 4th December 2026, 17:00.
